Who Are You Doing it For? By Jenny Laviolette

In a world where social media can either uplift or drag us down, where trends dictate our actions more than our own desires, and where comparison runs rampant, it’s crucial to ask ourselves one simple question: Who are you doing it for?

Social media, with its endless scroll and curated feeds, can often feel like a battleground for our self-esteem. But amidst the noise, it can also be a source of inspiration, support, and authentic connection. It all comes down to who we choose to follow and how they make us feel.

In a world obsessed with following the latest trends and fads, it’s easy to lose sight of our own desires and motivations. Are we doing things because they genuinely bring us joy, or are we simply following the crowd? We were not put on this earth to be carbon copies of someone else. We were meant to be our authentic selves, embracing our unique tastes and passions.

Just as we all have different tastes in food, fashion, and music, we also have different preferences when it comes to movement. Whether it’s lifting weights, cycling, or dancing in the kitchen, movement should be a celebration of what feels good to us, not a source of stress or pressure.

If hitting the gym five times a week works for you, that’s fantastic. But if a leisurely stroll through nature or a morning stretch in bed is more your speed, that’s equally valid. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to movement, and that’s perfectly okay.

In my opinion, it’s time to let go of the notion that certain forms of exercise are superior to others. Running marathons is extremely impressive, but if it doesn’t light a fire in your soul, there’s no shame in admitting it’s not for you. Explore your options, try new things, and embrace what brings you joy.

Movement shouldn’t be a chore; it should be a celebration of what our bodies are capable of. Whether you’re sweating it out in a gym or having a solo dance party with your cat in the comfort of your home, the most important thing is that you’re moving in a way that feels good to you.

So, the next time you’re tempted to compare yourself to someone else or force yourself into a mold that doesn’t fit, ask yourself: Who are you doing it for? And remember, the only person you need to impress is yourself. Sending you all the joy today and everyday!
