Blog Post: Our Favourite Endo Books

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month!

Yesterday we went to the Endo Events FriENDO Social downtown Toronto where we got to see a screening of Below the Belt, the Endometriosis Documentary, and listen to a live panel of endo experts! It was so amazing! If there is a screening in your local area, we recommend going and asking your loved ones to join you. It’s a great way to have them be educated on endo, hear from experts, and hopefully gain a better understanding on what you go through.

In honour of Endo Month, and yesterday’s event, today’s blog post is all about our favourite books for and about endo.

KNOW YOUR ENDO, Jessica Munane

This book is a great resource if you want to learn about endo, but also read about someone else’s relatable story. Know Your Endo also has a five-week plan you can build from and follow that is made by the author as well as top endo doctors and experts. The guide helps you build tools for living with endo to feel safer in your body, and become your own best advocate.

BEATING ENDO, Iris Kerin Orbuch, MD and Amy Stein, DPT

This was the first book our founder read when she was diagnosed with endometriosis. This book talks through everything you need to know about endo, living with endo, understanding how endo works in your own body, and some ways to find relief. Together, these two endo specialists give you a way to learn how to live an anti-inflammatory lifestyle, equipped with pelvic floor therapy, nutrition, mindfulness, and more, all of which you can do at home, or take to integrative health professionals.

Dr. Orbuch was featured in the documentary!

ASK ME ABOUT MY UTERUS, Abby Norman

This is more of a memoir book, taken from the author’s personal journals, that relates how real endo pain is, and how to have doctors and professionals in your life – and even your loved ones – believe you. Like all books about the chronic illness you have, all books, especially memoirs, can be difficult to read. Abby Norma is able to relate her personal story navigating her pain and diagnosis in a beautiful, heartfelt way.

HOW TO ENDO, Bridget Hustwaite

@bridgethustwaite on Instagram is a great place to go if you’re looking for a large endo community! Bridget’s book talks about her own story of being dismissed by doctors and all the misinformation about endo. This book goes through her own story as well as giving strategies and tools to building your own thriving life with endo. She talks about everything from surgery to acupuncture to painful sex in this book, so it’s a great place to start if you are newly diagnosed!

There are other books you can read, such as medical references, fertility and reproductive health books, and also books for endo that are diet and food related. Depending on what you’re looking for in book resources, there are lots of places you can turn. The books listed in this blog post are a great place to start to learn about endometriosis and start learning about lifestyle changes that can help your endo, without being diet, food, or fertility focused, which can be triggering for some people. They all touch on these, as they do go hand-in-hand with endo, though they aren’t the main focus.

Be sure to follow our Instagram and TikTok for lots of educational videos and posts, but also lots of funny memes and videos! For the month of March, we have an endo series on our TikTok were every day, we post a new educational video about endometriosis. We cover everything from diagnosis, to mental health, to lifestyle, to common signs and symptoms. And stay tuned for our podcast which is coming out very soon! We talk everything endo, and much more, in relatable, unfiltered, educational and laugh-filled ways.

Happy Endo Month!

PS – we are hosting a fundraiser for The Endometriosis Network Canada through CanadaHelps.org. Check out the post pinned to the top of our blog for how to donate. We have a goal of $500 and would love the help to reach it!
